Hi, I'm Julia

I'm a writer and photographer with experience in journalism, photography, and creative writing. I’m currently teaching English to secondary school students in Malaysia on a Fulbright grant.

My passion for storytelling led me to journalism, where I focus on politics and culture. Most recently, I worked on the Yahoo News news programming editorial team for its home page and mobile app, where I wrote for the 360 and programmed the news home page and app.

In 2018, I graduated from Emory University studying English and creative writing with a focus in contemporary poetry and extensive coursework in interdisciplinary studies and psychology.

I spent summer of 2017 with Yahoo News’ politics and news team, where I covered national politics beats such as health care legislation, Congress, and more. I pitched and wrote features about the $1 billion industry in fake Native American art and the whether poetry matters in politics.

My undergraduate career culminated in my term as editor-in-chief of The Emory Wheel, Emory’s only independent student-run newspaper. I controlled all editorial content and oversaw the financial strategy of the newspaper. Over four years, I led a team of editors and reporters to produce daily online stories and a weekly print issue distributed across campus. I covered activism including the “Trump chalkings” protest and “sanctuary campus” movement at Emory, unearthed unethical conduct in student government, and helped the newspaper to break the story of a fraudulent third-party concert booker scamming the university (he's now been charged by the DOJ).

In my studies, I specialize in contemporary poetry. I write about identity and inheritance, and I've had poems featured in Emotive Fruition's "Driving Without a License," a show about questions of home, and published in The Pulse, a campus literary journal.
